Should you be a frequent traveller then the credit card you use could be important as some cards offer travel rewards so you are awarded points each time you use your card which can be used for travelling costs.

The cost of the average vacation for a family of four is around $4,500 so being able to reduce this cost alone is a big bonus.

Some cards offer double points when used for travel expenses and card companies that operate their own travel arrangements will give a further discount on flights and accommodation.

Airlines such as Delta have their own credit cards and offer a sign-up bonus as well as other perks such as priority boarding and free checked bags.

Hotel chains also operate their own credit cards so if you and your family often stay in hotels then you can build up points and enjoy other benefits plus some of them will allow you to use points you have built up on flights with certain airlines.

When travelling abroad make sure you use a credit card that has no foreign currency transaction fees.
